The first production batch of 43 aircraft ordered from A.V. Roe and Co Ltd. Originally commenced as part of an order of 200 Manchesters, but completed as Lancaster B I’s under Contract # B.648770/37 as amended in 1940, and Works Order # 5723. All aircraft completed with Front, Rear, Mid-upper and Dorsal (Mid-lower) turrets.
A.V. Roe produced the major components at Chadderton, with assembly and flight testing being undertaken at Avro Woodford. The Avro factory at Yeadon, Yorkshire, both built and flew the aircraft at that site.
Deliveries commenced Nov 1941 and completed Mar 1942.
